IBIZA 2009: One week relaxing and clubbing with friends and business partners

Last week I took a break from business and enjoyed relaxing and clubbing at my favourite island Ibiza. It was a great and refreshing time with a supercool and entrepreneurial crew of 7 to (during peaktime) 14 good friends and business partners. We shared a nice and huge beachfront appartement at legendary “Bora Bora” Beach. Besides our arrival day the sun was shining all time and we spent a lot of time discussing and sunbathing at our terrace or the beach. But that what makes Ibiza special is not the sun neither the beach but the nightlife. Within 7 days I enjoyed a good share of the worlds most popular (electronic) DJs: Tiesto, Erik Morillo, Fedde le Grand, David Guetta, Carl Cox…

Auf ein schönes und erfolgreiches 2009!

Ich wünsche allen Freunden, Geschäftspartnern und Bekannten die mir nicht schon persönlich über den Weg gelaufen sind ein schönes und erfolgreiches 2009! Ich hoffe Ihr kommt alle Euren Zielen ein Stück weit näher, bleibt gesund und gesellig und habt Spaß dabei!

Derzeit befinde ich mich noch in Münster, wo ich im Kreise von Studienfreunden auf einer äußerst amüsanten Privatparty – Danke Basti, Christian & Hagen – reingefeiert habe. Morgen gehts dann wieder nach Berlin um den eigenen unternehmerischen Zielen für 2009 ein Stück näher zu kommen…

P.S. Nach mittlerweile wieder mehr als einem halben Jahr in Deutschland stelle ich mal wieder auf Muttersprache um.

A weekend at Ibiza: Sun, Beach & Closing-Parties

Last weekend we were on an amazing short trip to Ibiza. Thekla, Oli, Kolja, Steffen and I went on friday, Katja and Lukasz followed on Saturday. Our Hotel was immediately at the “Bora Bora”-Beach. We spent the days at the sunny beach – warming up for the closing-parties… Friday night we went to “Pacha Ibiza” – one of the most famous clubs in the world since it opened more than 30 years ago. Saturday we had a long night at “Amnesia”, another famous ibiza house club. Finally on Sunday it was time for the “Space Closing”: Ibiza is known as the worlds best party spot, and the “Space Closing”-Party is seen as the highlight of Ibiza… The party was incredible: A beautiful location with lots of open air space, thousands of happy people, and a sensational DJ-Lineup including Jonathan Ulysses, Tom Novy, Fedde Le Grand and 30+ other world class DJs…

5 days at Seedcamp in London

Since Tuesday I am in London where Oliver invited me as mentor to Seedcamp. Seedcamp is an event where 20+ start-up companies from all across europe compete to get seed-funding (50k € each). It was great fun for both the start-up teams and mentors and also a good opportunity to connect with entrepreneurs and investors from Europe and the U.S.. Between the mentoring sessions I took some time for sightseeing…

Yesterday we have been at the Techcrunch Party in the aqua river brasserie near the Thames. Marc Lewis, a creative entrepreneur from the UK, joined the party on his Segway. It was totally fun to drive, especially since it was already a little bit later that evening…

Now it is already a little bit later on friday evening and London nightlife is calling me intensely…

New York, New York

After I left San Francisco last week I stay for a short while in New York, before I move back to Germany next week. The city is beautyful and it`s great fun living here. I spend my days mostly watching the typical tourist attractions, celebrating the clubs, meeting locals and inhaling the city spirit by meeting some locals. I also met some nice entrepreneurs with roots in Austria and Singapur…

Some weeks ago Felix Haas, CEO of Amiando.com visited me for some days while he joined a conference in the valley. Some years ago he made his pilot license here in the valley while he studied at Stanford. So we went to the Palo Alto Flight Base and rent a nice small Cessna to fly over the bay area. We flew over the headquarters of Google and Co. and had a lot of fun especially when I took over the control of the machine…

The whole Area is pretty nice but for me San Francisco is definitely the best place around…

Tuesday night I spend with Manuel and Philipp, founders of Spickmich.de, at some web2.0-expo after parties. We started our tour at the office-party of six apart where hey had arranged a beautiful mini golf course – built mainly from macbooks and thinkpads…

Maybe that`s the reason why the vc-rounds tend to be a little bit larger in the valley

Anyway we had a lot of fun at the parties of Six Apart, Yahoo and Mashable…

Calvin Chin – American Internet Entrepreneur in Shanghai

Yesterday I met again Calvin Chin in a coffee bar in Palo Alto and we had an interesting discussion about entrepreneurial chances in China and elsewhere. Calvin and I got in contact when we both hold a discussion about “getting started as entrepreneur” at Barcamp Shanghai during september of last year. Calvin worked for several years in the U.S.-VC-sector before he moved to Shanghai, where he founded Qifang after he worked for a while as broker between Start-ups and VCs. Qifang is a (pre-launched) p2p-lending platform that is going to connect chinese students with wealthier individuals. I like the concept which seems to be both an attractive entrepreneurial chance as well as it could help millions of people to better their chances to get a good education. I look forward to meet Calvin again when I stay in Shanghai later this year.

My farewell party was integrated in the 2nd birthday of my party series “FULL HOUSE NIGHT” in Muensters No. 1 Club “Heaven”. I had a really great night and enjoyed the time with a lot of good friends and guests that joined my parties since years. I look forward to see you again this summer!
